| Wishing you a Happy Winter Solstice, and a blessed holiday season 2008! The year 2008 seems to have been dominated by a few things – Hal going to OCS, work ups and downs, the upcoming move, Rygar starting Kindergarten, Sis moving here and the untimely departure of our dear Anette. This year, the words have left me, and time ran out, too. Please accept my apologies for sending this late, and for not being able to put the past, present and future into words. Even Hal and Rygar are at a loss of words. Being so close to our move, not knowing exactly how it’s going to work is definitely overwhelming. Our orders were changed last minute, literally. Instead of Ft Campbell, KY, we are now moving to Ft Carson, CO. We are exhilarated, however, Hal still has to report on 2 Jan, and he has to leave 29 Dec to be there in time. He will be in temporary lodging for 10 days, and then we don’t know. The house in Georgia hasn’t sold, and I don’t have a new job as of yet. The movers will pick up our stuff end of January, and we will move in February, with 2 dogs, 5 cats, and an aquarium. I learned my lesson in just trusting that things will work out, so I am doing my best to just keep my faith that things will happen the way they have to, again. 2008 seemed very busy. The paperwork for the insurances is a job by itself. Moving my office mid-year was unplanned, but turned out to be a blessing. I also realized that I still consider myself a stay at home Mom, who works occasionally. Also in my mind, Hal has been gone since March (officer schooling), even though he was home quite frequently. He went to OCS (Office Candidate School) from March until May, then to BOLC (Basic Officers Leader’s Course) from July until August, and BOLC/Signal from August until December. It’s been a journey for him, and he is ready now for the change in his career as a Signal Officer. He is looking forward to being ‘settled’ again, and to the prospect of snow and skiing. The summer brought Asi’s move to our house, which now makes for an interesting social life for our pets – and us! Things are still in upheaval, but there is always hope. We are proud to say that Rygar started Kindergarten in a program for ‘academically and creatively gifted students’. It still has music, arts, PE and Spanish in their curriculum. Rygar has been very responsible taking care of the fish he inherited from his friend Simon who moved to Sweden. Rygar is excited about the move – but it’s also hard to let go, especially since it’s not clear cut about when we are finally leaving. The saddest part this year, which I still can’t quite grasp, is that heaven gained an angel in our friend Anette. I miss her terribly. She always knew what to say and how to cheer someone up. I still don’t have the right words, but I know she knows… Read about our adventures on facebook and wer-kennt-wen. There you will also find recent pictures. Please join and post. I love staying in touch with everyone– but am doing a bad job writing long emails or letters, or making phone calls. Wishing you all a great new year – hang in there – things are moving in the right direction! | Not sure if anyone reads this, but I'll post it anyway Please read this: If you have already made up your mind, need confirmation, if you are still undecided, or just need some more or objective information to make an informed decision. On the bottom you will also find a link to you-tube where you can hear it for yourself. There are too many emails in distribution, spreading false scare tactics. Also, people have been going around this neighborhood destroying Obama signs. I have to do something on the other end, because I don't want people making a decision out of fear. This one is for you to think about. PS - one thing I just saw that suprised me - even our newspaper, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, endorses Obama - that is saying something! Role in presidential election of 2008In the summer of 2007, Powell donated the maximum amount to John McCain's campaign.[45] In the beginning of 2008, Powell's name was mentioned as a possible running mate of Republican nominee John McCain for the 2008 U.S. presidential election.[46] However, some argued that Powell would endorse Democratic nominee Barack Obama.[47] On August 13, 2008, Fox News analyst Bill Kristol speculated that Powell would endorse Barack Obama for president and give a speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.[48][49] Powell stated in response that "I do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol's musings."[48] Powell told CNN News in February 2008 that "I will vote for the candidate I think can do the best job in America—whether that candidate is a Republican or Democrat or an independent."[48] On October 19, 2008, Powell announced his endorsement of Barack Obama during an interview with Meet the Press, citing "his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities", in addition to his "style and substance." Powell additionally called Obama a "transformational figure."[50][51] He questioned the judgement Senator John McCain had made in appointing Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential stating that despite her being an admired and distinguished woman "now that we have had a chance to watch her for some seven weeks, I don't believe she's ready to be president of the United States, which is the job of the vice president". He was also "troubled" by the "false intimations that Obama was Muslim." Powell stated that "[Obama] is a Christian--he's always been a Christian...," and continued, "But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer's no, that's not America." Powell then referenced Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, a Muslim American soldier in the U.S. Army who served and died in the Iraq War. Powell later stated, "Over the last seven weeks, the approach of the Republican Party has become narrower and narrower [...] I look at these kind of approaches to the campaign, and they trouble me." It can be anything you want - good or bad - but it has to be fake.
When you're finished, post this little paragraph in your blog and see what your friends come up with. | | |
